Imipenem monohydrate is a broad spectrum B-lactam antibiotic, a member of the carbapenem class of antibiotics isolated from the soil organism Streptomyces cattleya, is an intravenous β-lactam antibiotic effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including several multi-drug resistant bacterial species. Imipenem acts as cell wall-targeting antibiotic.
Reported to be used in Microbiome and Bioprojects and gastrointestinal health research projects exploring the role of gastrointestinal bacteria (microbiota).
