Chloramphenicol
Chloramphenicol is a synthetic antibiotic, isolated from strains of Streptomyces venezuelae. It is often used for bacterial selection in molecular biology applications at 10-20 μg/mL and as a selection agent for transformed cells containing chloramphenicol resistant genes. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic useful for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections. It is frequently used as eye drops in the treatment of bacterial eye infections. In Microbiology it is used as a component in Rose Bengal Chloramphenicol Agar for the selective enumeration of moulds and yeast from food.
