Also known as 5-Bromo-4-Chloro-3-indolyl-β-D-Glucopyranoside. A substrate for Beta-glucosidase that renders an intense indigo-blue chromophore (615 nm) upon enzymatic action. Used as an indicatior-probe in histochemistry.
In culture media to detect beta-Glucosidase positive organisms. Contained in chromogenic culture media for detection of Enterococci, Streptococci, Klebsiella species, Enterobacter species and Listeria species.
