X-Glu (5-Bromo-4-Chloro-3-Indolyl-β-D-Glucopyranoside)
X-Glu, also known as 5-Bromo-4-Chloro-3-indolyl-β-D-Glucopyranoside, is a substrate for Beta-glucosidase that renders an intense indigo-blue chromophore (615 nm) upon enzymatic action. In culture media it is usedto detect beta-Glucosidase positive organisms. It is also a component in chromogenic culture media for detection of Enterococci, Streptococci, Klebsiella species, Enterobacter species and Listeria species.
