Viomellein isolated from Aspergillus sulphureus is a gram-positive genotoxic mycotoxin shown to have antibacterial and insecticidal activity. A type of fungal quinone, Viomellein might play a causal role in mycotoxic porcine nephropathy, however these metabolites have not been encountered as natural contaminants of feed-stuffs.
