Rifaximin
Rifaximin is a semisynthetic antibiotic based on rifamycin. It has poor oral bioavailability, meaning that very little of the drug will be absorbed into the blood stream when it is taken orally. Rifaximin is a semisynthetic antibiotic used to treat diarrhea caused by E. coli. It is also used to treat hepatic encephalopathy by reducing blood ammonia concentrations. Rifaximin is a potential treatment for inflammatory bowel disease.
