Ribavirin
Ribavirin is an anti-viral drug used for severe RSV infection; hepatitis C infection, including if persistent, and often in combination with peginterferon alfa-2b or peginterferon alfa-2a; as well as some other viral infections. Recent data suggest that ribavirin may also be an effective cancer therapy. In this case, ribavirin targets an oncogene, the eukaryotic translation initiation factor eIF4E, elevated in approximately 30% of cancers including many leukemias and lymphomas.
