Mannose is a sugar monomer of the aldohexose series of carbohydrates. Mannose is a C-2 epimer of glucose. Mannose is important in human metabolism, especially in the glycosylation of certain proteins.L-Mannose has been used in a study to assess substrate specificity of galactokinase from Streptococcus pneumoniae. It has also been used in a study to investigate a versatile route to L-hexoses.
