Herbimycin A, a benzoquinoid ansamycin antibiotic, is produced by the actinomycetes organism Streptomyces hygroscopicus and has antiparasite and antineoplastic properties. Herbimycin A irreversibly and selectively inhibits tyrosine kinases by reacting with thiol groups.
