Hemin Porcine
Hemin is an iron-containing porphyrin. More specifically, it is protoporphyrin IX containing a ferric iron ion with a chloride ligand. It is used in the management of porphyria attacks, particularly in acute intermittent porphyria.
In microbiology it can be used in short-term colony assays (the culture medium consists of hemin along with other components).
