D-(+)-Raffinose Pentahydrate is a trisaccharide hydrate composed of galactose, fructose, and glucose. It can be derived from sugar beet or Gossypium Hirsutum L. (cottonseed).
It finds applications in life sciences, cell culture and microbiology and is often used in conjunction with D-(+)-Galactose as a media to produce Saccharomyces cerevisae, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, Pichia pastoris and E.Coli bacteria on a large scale. This is often carried out in large scale bio-incubators and state of the art facilities for bio-fermentation.
