D-(+)-Melezitose monohydrate
Melezitose is a nonreducing trisaccharide sugar that is produced by many plant sap eating insects, including aphids such as Cinara pilicornis by an enzyme reaction. This is beneficial to the insects, as it reduces the stress of osmosis by reducing their own water potential.
D-Melezitose has been used in a study to assess the identification of clinical isolates of indole-positive and indole-negative Klebsiella spp. It has also been used in a study to investigate new epidemiologic markers of Klebsiella oxytoca strains.
