Colistin Sulfate
Colistin sulfate, a cationic polypeptide from the polymyxin family, has been shown to be an extremely potent antibiotic that is effective against most gram-negative Bacilli. Mechanistic studies have reported that this compound induces apoptosis through interaction with the cytoplasmic membrane. Additional studies have demonstrated that Colistin sulphate is extremely toxic. Toxic effects noted include neurotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, vascular congestion of brain vessels, and extreme kidney and CNS negative effects.
