Alloxan Monohydrate
Alloxan monohydrate is a pyrimidine derivative and the hydrated form of Alloxan. The name Alloxan emerged from an amalgamation of the words Allantoin and Oxalic acid. It was first used as a raw material for the purple dye, Murexide.
In biochemistry it has been shown to destroy β cells. Alloxan is also used in research models to induce diabetes.
