In Microbiology, pyridoxal is used as a component of Chocolate II Agar used for the isolation of nutritionally-variant catalase-negative, gram-positive cocci (vitamin B6-requiring) from blood cultures.
In cosmetics, it may be used in certain hair care formulations.
