N-Octyl-β-D-Galocatopyranoside
Octyl β-D-galactopyranoside is a detergent frequently used to solubilise integral membrane proteins. It is particularly useful because it generally does not denature the protein and can be easily removed. Octyl β-D-galactopyranoside has also been shown to prevent the adhesion of bacteria including Staphylococcus epidermidis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
