Caesium carbonate or cesium carbonate is a white crystalline solid compound. Caesium carbonate has a high solubility in polar solvents such as water, alcohol and DMF. This compound is used in organic synthesis as a base. It also appears to have applications in energy conversion.It is a potential chemoselective catalyst for the reduction of aldehydes and ketones to alcohols. It is employed as base for the Heck coupling reaction of 4-trifluoromethyl-1-chlorobenzene and aryl chlorides.
