Crystal violet (also known as Gentian Violet),is a triarylmethane dye used as a histological stain and in Gram’s method of classifying bacteria. Crystal violet also exhibits antibacterial, antifungal, and anthelmintic properties and was formerly important as a topical antiseptic. It can be used topically to treat fin rot, itch and fungus in aquarium fish.
