Iron (III) Nitrate Nonahydrate
It is used as catalyst for the synthesis of sodium amide from sodium and ammonia, and for etching of silver and silver alloys. Ferric nitrate is used in the synthesis of organically templated iron phosphates, and acts as an efficient catalyst in enamination of beta dicarbonyl compounds to beta enaminones.
Used in Forensics for Detection of latent fingerprints on porous exhibits that have been wet. Physical Developer reacts with fats to produce a silver-grey coloured deposit.
